WHY KARATE?

By learning karate, children learn to condition both the mind and body. The training process allows them to develop speed, strength, endurance, flexibility, balance, precision and coordination. Special emphasis will be placed on strengthening self-confidence, self-defense, and respect for self and others.  Students will also learn to appreciate the nobility of karate sports, learning discipline, control, respect, and responsibility for work and school obligations.

Our program will introduce kids to Kihon (basic) karate.  Each class begins with a greeting, followed by stretching, running, jumping, and obstacle courses.  A variety of games will be used to aid in training and keep the class engaged and excited about learning. For instance, tug of war will help to teach the students about stance and balance while fostering a sense of teamwork and comradery.

After these warm-ups we will progress to the practice of karate. We will get acquainted with the basic principles and techniques (proper posture, breathing, and behavior), self-defense, and simple combinations of techniques (blocks, stances, punches, and kicks).   Above all, we will emphasize restraint and respect, which engenders a sense of self confidence. These techniques will have long lasting benefits, and aid in the future development of their minds and bodies.

Arigatou gozaimashita – thank you!
